The Executive Board

The Executive Board has overall responsibility for the management and administration of the Center. It is made up of high caliber African professionals of diverse backgrounds, with proven track record in public and private sector development in Africa. The members of the Board are:

ALAN KYEREMATEN

Mr. Kyerematen is a former Minister for Trade, Industry and Private Sector Development in the Republic of Ghana, and served in that capacity under two different Governments, from 2003 to 2007 and 2017 to 2023. He was also Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States from 2001 to 2003. Mr. Kyerematen has also had an extensive and distinguished career in international development and public policy, private sector and law. He was a Senior Trade Policy Advisor to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and Director for the Africa Trade Policy Center. He was also the Regional Director for UNDP’s flagship programme for enterprise development for Africa, Enterprise Africa, establishing Enterprise Support Programmes in 13 African countries. He previously initiated the establishment of the Empretec Programme in Ghana, an internationally acknowledged best practice model for SME development. Mr. Kyerematen was the lead architect for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) between 2011 and 2012, and successfully led Ghana’s bid in 2018 to host the Headquarters Secretariat of AfCFTA in Accra. Prior to his career in international development and politics, he was a Senior Corporate Executive with a subsidiary of Unilever International in Ghana, where he worked in various managerial positions with distinction between 1977 and 1984. In 1994, Mr. Kyerematen was listed as one of the top 100 leaders for the new Millenium together with other personalities such as Bill Gates, John F. Kennedy Jnr. Jeffries Sachs, and Condoleezza Rice, all of the United States of America. In 2013, Mr. Kyerematen was nominated by the Heads of States of the African Union to contest as Africa’s Candidate for the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

DAOUDA TOURE:

Mr. Toure has 40 years of experience in international development. He was UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in three key African countries- Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda spanning over a period of almost 17 years. He was also Senior Policy Advisor at UNDP Headquarters responsible for the Special Initiative for Africa. Prior to joining the UN, he served in various senior managerial capacities in the African Development Bank at the Headquarters in Abidjan, in the North Africa Regional Office, and also in the Washington Office of the Bank. In his early career, he served as the Portfolio Manager for SOFISEDIT Development Bank, and also as a representative of an international trading company.

PHILIP OWUSU:

Mr. Owusu has over 35 years of experience in International Economic Development, and worked for 25 years at the World Bank in a diversified group of countries in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, as well as Eastern and Western Africa. His areas of specialization include Energy, Water Supply and Sanitation, Urban Development, Telecommunications, Transport and Banking Sector Reforms. He has also been engaged in a number of private consulting assignments on Infrastructural Development in Africa.

OPIA MENSAH KUMAH:

Mr. Kumah has a career spanning nearly 40 years in International Development and Strategic Communications. He is a former UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Comoros. He has also served in the same capacity ad interim, in Rwanda, Nigeria, and South Africa, in addition to being responsible for establishing UNDP Africa’s Regional Service Center in Addis Ababa. Prior to joining UNDP, he served in senior managerial capacities in a variety of UN organizations (UNESCO, UNFPA and UN-OCHA).

DR. OHENE OWUSU NYANIN:

Dr. Owusu Nyanin, an Economist, worked with the World Bank for more than 27 years, and held senior managerial positions as Country Representative for Liberia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. He was also the first manager of Regional Initiatives, managing the Partnerships Group in the Africa Region of the World Bank. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked as an Economist with the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. Dr Owusu has also been engaged in a variety of private consulting assignments in international finance and investments.

ARNOLD TETTEH OKAI:

Arnold Tetteh Okai is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ experience in managing the finance and accounting functions of medium to large scale enterprises in the service and manufacturing sectors. He is also a Senior Partner of Iako Consult and a Tax Consultant to Total Petroleum, Ghana Bunkering Services, Golden Beach Hotels, EPP Book Services, Comsys Ghana Limited, Telesol, Red Bull Soccer Academy, Bank of Baroda Ghana, Omega Risks Solutions Ghana Limited etc.
